How to install APK and XAPK files on Android

Every download button on this site opens the app's official Google Play page, and Play installs everything for you. If you ever install a file you downloaded yourself, Android asks for permission first. Here is how that works, step by step.

Android 8 (Oreo) and newer

1. Open Settings on your device.

Step 1

2. Go to Apps & notifications.

Step 2

3. Tap Advanced.

Step 3

4. Select Special app access.

Step 4

5. Scroll until you find Install unknown apps.

Step 5

6. Choose the app you download with, for example Chrome.

Step 6

7. Turn on Allow from this source.

Step 7

8. Open the downloaded file and confirm the installation.

Android 7 and older

1. Open Settings and go to Security.

Step 1

2. Turn on Unknown sources and confirm the warning.

Step 2

3. Open the downloaded file and confirm the installation.

APK or XAPK: what is the difference

APK is the standard Android package. It contains the whole app and installs on its own when you open it.

XAPK is a bundle: one APK plus extra data files, used by large games that ship their artwork and audio separately. Android cannot open a bundle directly, so an installer app has to unpack it first.

If the installation fails
Staying safe

Install from the official store whenever it is available: Play checks every upload and keeps the app updated automatically. We never host, repackage or modify app files, and every download button here points to the developer's official listing.
